📚 Week #38 of 52 of reading

So many books, so little time. I definitely used a few long flights to read & really enjoyed the books I read. I’ll call it: lean into important, essential (and possibly challenging) topics to grapple with.

Likeable Badass: How Women Get the Success They Deserve By Alison Fragale

This book provides a new way to look at some of the challenges that women face in the workplace, including actionable recommendations.

📘 Telling a strong story isn’t about being quick on your feet. It’s about thoughtful preparation & practice.

‼️ Use your long-term priorities to guide today’s decisions.

❤️ Looking at the full picture of your life - where are you, who’s with you, what you are doing - helps you make decisions today toward that future.

😡 The important reminder of the “motherhood penalty” (which I’ve lived lately) & the truth about how best to guide our choices in life.

🤔 The idea of “fractional mentors” - and our shared responsibility in mentoring those around us.

“Let’s Talk About It: Turning Confrontation into Collaboration at Work” by Dr. Paul Marciano

⁉️ What if we changed our mindset from telling ourselves we must face a difficult conversation to believing we have the skills to engage in a healthy conversation?

💯 A productive conversation takes place when both people speak & listen to each other. The issue gets resolved promptly & both people leave the interaction feeling complete and move on without resentment.

⁉️ Are you more committed to avoiding conflict or having a healthy relationship?

😳 The concept of “reactive devaluation” — the idea that we devalue proposals made by those we consider adversaries. (Note: This connects with my suggestion that we can’t have heroes & villains at work … imagine how much collaboration we could have if there were less “adversaries” around us?)

🤯 A truly dangerous mindset is to believe you have the best answer.

⭐️ Ambiguity is the enemy of a productive conversation.
