I went into Goodreads to catch up on my completion & realized I passed 100 books read this year. 33 fiction and 70 nonfiction (so far)

📚“The Paris Library: A Novel” by Janet Skeslien Charles

I enjoy historical fiction a lot. This one was a powerful reminder that people are so much more than we will ever know completely. It’s especially fun when the author has the dialogue have insights. A few I caught (no spoilers 🙂):
❤️ Give people a chance, you might be surprised.
🤔 Don’t choose to believe what is convenient vs. what is true.
‼️ It’s important to remember how hard it is to ask for help.
💯 Never be impatient; all questions have value.
❤️ Accept people for who they are, not for who you want them to be.

“I Never Thought of It That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times” By Monica Guzman
Read the book: https://amzn.to/3ZJXZxC
‼️ Curiosity is big & it is badass. At its weakest, it keeps our minds open, so they don’t shrink. At its strongest, it whips us into a frenzy of unstoppable learning.
Being in so many spaces where acronyms are used to the point of them being almost their own language … I love these two new ones:
1️⃣ SOS - Sorting, Othering, Siloing (things we do that impact relationships, conversations & opportunities to learn)
2️⃣ INTOIT Way moments - I Never Thought Of It That Way
⭐️ We see people by talking with them, not just about them.
🤔 Once we have an us, we are hardwired to find them.
📘 Everything about how we see the world comes from the stories we tell ourselves about it.
❓What am I missing? (One of my favorite questions.)
🤯 You can’t know what you aren’t close to.
⭐️ Curiosity is one of the urges and drives of life.
‼️ Keep exposing yourself to new things to keep yourself curious.
🤯 Curiosity’s archenemy is certainty. Reject easy answers.
🌉 Conversation is the most power tool to bridge divides. Tools for great conversation: a willing mind & time
❤️ Pieces of people get reflected in the spaces they make & love.
“Assumption Assistant” (think Devil Wears Prada) … except it doesn’t help us because we need to not listen to that assistant - or we don’t even know we are …)
🔎 People are mysteries, not puzzles. We can never know everything about them, but we can stay curious.
‼️ Experiences give context. Experiences create mysteries.
🎧 Listening is showing people they matter.
