📚 Week #26 of 52 of reading
Vacation reading is the best … whether in little Iceland cafes or during small breaks, it’s fun to remember the books I read on vacation. (I save certain fiction books just FOR vacation too 🙂). Four more books finished last week.
“Radical Humility: Be a Badass Leader and a Good Human” by Urs Koenig
This book is one is those books that has risen to the top of my recommendation list. Urs openly discusses the many myths of leadership that we need to address, if we are going to develop better leaders for today and tomorrow.
Just a few of many highlights below:
❓ Asking questions about things bigger than you are is a part of radical humility.
‼️ Radical Humility means having an accurate understanding of yourself, both embracing your strengths and talents while owning your shortcomings and weakness.
✔️ As a humble leader, you are confident in your ability to create, train, and develop an expert team—step out of the spotlight and let them do the jobs they were hired and trained for.
😳 Assuming too much trust too soon might be a grave error.
⭐️ Genuinely soliciting feedback builds trust and deepens relationships.
‼️ Strong connections within and across your teams help to avoid tribalism and silos that lead to indifference or, worse, manipulation.
⚡️ As a leader you must work on building authentic relationships while also accepting the reality that you are going to be disliked and maybe even hated at times.
🙂 You must be the humble creator of the right environment for your team.

Storyworthy: Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life through the Power of Storytelling by Matthew Dicks
Your story must reflect change over time. A story cannot simply be a series of remarkable events. You must start out as one version of yourself and end as something new.
‼️ You must tell your own story and not the stories of others.
💔 Our lives are filled with beautiful, unforgettable moments with our children that turn out to be entirely and tragically forgettable.
🤔 We all understand how difficult relationships can be and the joy that comes with finally making them work.
